ELIGIBILITY
High school students, successfully completing grades 9 through 12 and two or more years of Spanish while maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher, are eligible. Learning to get along in a new language, family and culture is not easy. There may be moments of frustration and difficult times of adjustment. Students must be in good physical and emotional health, seriously committed to speaking Spanish, and willing to accept the challenges that life in an unfamiliar culture entails. BRIDGES programs are best approached with a spirit of adventure, a sense of humor and a show of enthusiasm.
Other Stipulations
BRIDGES programs offer you an extraordinary opportunity to broaden your academic, cultural, and personal perspectives. Your willingness to learn and consideration of the needs and rights of others are the key to a successful experience in Spain. BRIDGES participants are expected to maintain high standards of personal behavior, cooperate with their host families, student advisors, and school officials, abide by the rules and regualtions of the program, and behave in a responsible manner. BRIDGES professional staff in San Francisco, Seattle and Spain is available for support and emergency assistance.
Since BRIDGES students are required within the context of our homestay program, to take a significant degree of responsibility for their actions, students whose parents require them to be under constant surveillance or who are likely to consume illegal drugs, abuse alcohol, or act irresponsibly should not apply.
ENROLLMENT
Enrollment is limited to 20 students, including all sessions, to ensure well-qualified host families, camaraderie among the students, individual attention from the student advisors, and manageable groupings for activities and excursions; students are encouraged to apply early. Last minute applicants, if accepted, will be placed in families and classes in accordance with availability.
