Day 1 Depart U.S. Overnight flight to Madrid.
Day 2 Program begins. Students arrive in Madrid. Welcome Dinner.
Day 3 Madrid. Excursion to Segovia, renowned for its beautiful architecture and Roman aqueduct.
Day 4 Madrid. Excursion to El Escorial, "Eighth Wonder of the World" built by Philip II in 16th century and an architectural marvel. Covering the length of two football fields, it is a monastery, church, palace, and royal pantheon all wrapped into one.
Day 5 Madrid. Sightseeing. Ciudad Anatigua or "Hapsburg Madrid"; the lavish 18th century Palacio Royal; the Museo Sofia which houses Picasso's Guernica, a depiction of the Civil War's horrors ; Museo del Prado, recognized as one of the world's great art galleries, particularly notable for its collections by Velazquez and Goya.
Day 6 En Route. Train from Madrid to Cádiz. Meet host families.
Days 7-25 Homestay, Language Classes, Activities & Excursions.
Day 7 Classes begin. Placement tests. Get-Acquainted Walking Tour of Cádiz.
Day 8 Tertulia: The Spanish Family. Salsa dance class.
Day 7 Afternoon Orientation Session: Building Cultural Perspectives.
Day 10 A trip through the countryside known as the Sherry Triangle, cradle of three staples of Andalucian culture - flamenco, horses and sherry - concluding with a visit to the Royal Equestrian Center in Jerez.
Day 11 Tertulia: The Art of Bullfighting. Salsa dance class.
Day 13 Bullfights in Puerto de Santa María, whose century-old bullring ranks with that of Seville in prestige. Optional.
Day 14 Group Meetings.
Day 15 Tertulia: El Andalus, a brief history of Andalucía.
Day 16 Excursion to Vejer, one of Andalucia's charming "white towns" with a maze of narrow winding streets and a strong Moorish character, and then down the Costa de la Luz to Tarifa, windsurfing capital of Europe.
Day 19 Trip to Sevilla and Córdoba, two captivating and romantic cities, both products of an ancient and impressive history.
Day 21 Tertulia: The Art of Flamenco.
Day 22 An evening flamenco performance, Spain’s best-known art form interpreted by the gypsies..
Day 23 Excursion to Sanlúcar, known for its superb manzanilla sherry and crumblling colonial charm.
Day 24 Family Day and Dinner.
Day 25 Classes end. Certificates of Completion distributed.
Day 26 En Route. Train from Cádiz to Madrid.
Day 27 Program ends. Depart from Madrid, Spain.
